The Lagos State branch of the People’s Democratic Party said on Sunday that six candidates are jostling for the party’s gubernatorial ticket in the 2023 elections.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Hakeem Amode, revealed in a statement that the aspirants appeared before the selection committee headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi at the party’s zonal office in Ibadan.
“Eleven aspirants from Oyo, Lagos and Ogun States appeared before the panel in Ibadan.
“Lagos contenders who appeared before the panel were Shamsideen Dosumu, AbdulAzeez Adediran, David Kolawole, Jimi Karmal, Adedeji Doherty and Rhodes Gbadebo,” the spokesperson said.
Amode said the chapter on Wednesday selected candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly.
He congratulated the party’s selection committee and the aspirants for their successful clearance.
Amode also commended the party leadership for having neighborhood conventions elect 3-member ad hoc delegates before the party primaries.
Expressing his gratitude to all stakeholders and participants, Amode said the smooth running of the exercise was an indication that the party was ready for the 2023 elections.
He said the selection was successful because of the caliber of candidates who showed up to contest various seats in the 2023 elections.
“The peaceful projection is an indication that the PDP is ready to play fair in the upcoming elections.
“PDP is fully prepared to take control of Lagos, make governance the people and give the people of Lagos a reason to sleep with both eyes closed.
“For this reason, the party has ensured that the best and most capable hands within the party come forward to stand for election in 2023,” he said.
The PDP will hold a national convention to nominate its presidential candidate for the 2023 general election on May 28-29.
He also set May 21 for the gubernatorial primaries to choose his candidates.
The primary elections for the nomination of candidates for the House of Representatives and the Senate will be held on May 12 and 14 respectively, while the conventions for the nomination of candidates for the House of Assembly will be held on May 7. (NOPE)
