Activists from the Aam Admi party held a dharna outside the Prakasam Bhavan here on Saturday to protest against big-budget projects including the Donakonda Industrial Corridor and the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ), which have long gone without suite in Prakasam district.

The activists, led by his state organizer KVBV Varaprasad, launched slogans against the government of Jagan Mohan Reddy for failing to allocate ₹1,400 crore for the completion of the Pula Subbaiah Veligonda project, envisaged to provide irrigation and drinking water in the drought-prone western parts of the district. as well as the neighboring districts of SPSR Nellore and YSR Kadapa.

It is unfortunate that without an earmarking of funds, YSRCP leaders made a false promise that water would flow from the project this year, he alleged.

Urging the state government to accede to the popular demand to retain the Assembly segments of Addanki and Kandukur with Prakasam district itself, the district party chairman, V. Sudharshan insisted on expedite the execution of Ramayapatnam seaport. It is unfortunate that the big plans remained on paper because the YSRCP government lacked commitment to ensure the decentralized development of the district so that the local people who used to migrate year after year to distant places for several months, could get jobs in the district itself. .
