Billy Swank (1927 – 2021) death notice – Scottdale, Pennsylvania


Billy L. Swank Sr., 94, of Scottdale (Kingview), passed away peacefully on Monday, September 20, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born June 30, 1927 in Calumet, the son of the late John and Jennie (Rodgers) Swank. He married Harriet E. (McGovern) Swank in November 1950 and she died on September 5, 2017.

Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great great great grandfather. He retired from Scottdale Mennonite Publishing House in Scottdale after working for over 25 years in the book binding department. Bill was a faithful member of the Apostolic Holiness Church in Connellsville and served as a trustee. He was honorably discharged from the US Army Air Force on September 29, 1947, after serving in World War II as an aircraft and engine mechanic. Bill was a member of the Scottdale American Legion Post and for many years was involved in the Mennonite Church and loved to help at World’s Attic in Somerset.

Bill will be sadly missed by his loving family, his three children, Robert Swank and his wife Saundra, Billy Swank Jr. and his wife Wendy, all of Scottdale, and Judy Mc-Beth and her husband James of Ruffsdale; his grandchildren, Jimmy McBeth Jr. and his wife Becky de Tarrs, Jessica Provlic and her partner Joshua Hudec of Everson, Becky Bower and her husband Scott of Ohio, Tonya Riggs and her husband Tim of Latrobe, Penny Nichelson and her husband Tom and Stacey Domina and her husband Sal, both of Connellsville, Billy Swank III and his wife Melissa of Connellsville, April Shallenberger and her partner Brandon of Connellsville, Jody Swank and their partner Jeremy Steiner and Andrea Swank, all of Scottdale; his 19 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Albert Swank of Dunbar; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his seven brothers, John, Theodore, Ray, Edward, Ernest, Amos and Sherman Swank; and her three sisters, Lillian, Gladys and Mary.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300). Family and friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the funeral home where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Terry Upton as celebrating. Burial service and interment will follow at Greenlick Cemetery with full military honors from the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard. The family would like to express their special gratitude to the staff at Suncrest Hospice and UPMC Mercy. Love lasts forever!
