Unlike many other streaming services, Disney + typically doesn’t announce when titles leave its lineup. Most Disney-owned properties are on Disney + to stay, but every now and then there’s an exception, and these outings always take subscribers by surprise. On January 1, as we sounded at the start of the New Year, a popular Star Wars children’s series was removed from Disney + without warning, leaving some fans wondering what happened.
LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures airing for two seasons on Disney XD, starting in 2016, and telling the story of a family of scavengers who discover one of their own is Force-sensitive. The series was released around the same time as Star Wars Rebels and was a favorite among young audiences. Both seasons have aired on Disney + until now, along with most other Star Wars TV titles, but they are no longer available.
What is really strange about the loss of The adventures of the Freemaker is that part of that lego property still on disney +. Both seasons of the true Freemaker series have been deleted, but the first and only season of Freemaker Adventures Shorts is still available for streaming. You can therefore discover five short films that take place in the Freemaker timeline, but you can’t stream the series itself, at least not right now.
There may be some sort of streaming deal forged by Disney XD over the years that requires The adventures of the Freemaker be on another service for a while, as we’ve seen happen to other titles over the past couple of years. That said, the series was originally released on Disney XD, so its long-term broadcast rights likely belong to Disney +. The adventures of the Freemaker Is expected to return to Disney’s streaming service at some point in the future, it’s unclear when exactly that will be.
In the meantime, there’s a ton of new Star Wars thrills headed for Disney +. Boba Fett’s book premiered on the service last week and will release new episodes every Wednesday. 2022 will also see the release of Star Wars shows Obi-wan and Andor. There’s also a big chance we’ll see the third season of The Mandalorian before the end of the year.
