Michigan was represented by Anca Craciun, Merri kelly and Julia fliegner at the event.
Reaching the round of 16 in the singles main draw, Kelly and Fliegner clinched their tickets to the ITA Super Regionals Oct. 22-25 at Ohio State.
During the fall portion of the season, everyone competes as an individual. There are no team results.

CHAMPAGNE, III. – The University of Michigan wrapped up the game of the three-day ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Sunday, September 26, hosted by Illinois at the Atkins Tennis Center and the University of Illinois tennis courts.

The competition for the Wolverines was senior Anca Craciun, first-year student Julia fliegner and second Merri kelly. Reaching the round of 16 in singles, Fliegner and Kelly both clinched their tickets to the ITA Super Regionals main draw singles October 22-25 at Ohio State.

Fliegner and Kelly each earned first-round singles main draw passes, with both Wolverines winning two games to reach the round of 16. Fliegner entered the tournament as the No.1 seed and hasn’t lost a set to play his way. in next month’s event. The Wolverine rookie, who was making his college debut, lost just six games in total in the two games.

Kelly won her first game after the pass in straight sets before rallying to a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Maeve Koscielski of Notre Dame to earn a spot in the Super Regional.

Craciun ultimately missed a game to qualify for Super Regional, winning her first two games before falling to three to UIC’s Ana Jover. Craciun played a consolation match on the final day of action, taking a 6-2, 6-3 win over Notre Dame’s Katerine Bellia to end her weekend with a 3-1 record.

Kelly and Fliegner teamed up in the doubles main draw, reaching the third round after a first round pass. The Wolverine pair’s run ended in the third round, falling in a tiebreaker, 8-6, to give up an 8-7 decision to a DePaul duo.

Michigan will continue the fall portion of its season Friday through Sunday (October 1-3), hosting the Wolverine Invitational at the Varsity Tennis Center.
