Have you ever wondered what kind of content the rich and famous regularly consume? With Apple Fitness+, you don’t have to guess anymore with its audio content curated by influential and interesting people.
Designed to make walking more enjoyable, the Time to Walk feature is like having a successful person in your ear as you take your daily walk. But what exactly is the Time to Walk feature and how do you get it?
What is Apple Fitness+ Time to Walk?
In 2022, Apple launched the Apple Fitness+ Time to Walk feature. With Time to Walk, Apple Fitness+ users have access to 25-40 minute podcast-like episodes of celebrities sharing personal stories, photos and music recommendations.
If you subscribe to Apple Fitness+, the most recent Time to Walk (or Time to Run) episodes will be downloaded to your Apple Watch. However, this will only work if your Apple Watch charges while connected to the internet.
Unfortunately, like the rest of Apple Fitness+’s features, Time to Walk isn’t free for all users. However, there are ways to simulate a similar experience for free. You’ll find out how to do this in the sections below.
If you’re feeling a little experimental, you can scour YouTube for interviews with your favorite celebrities and intersperse them with songs they mention or remind you of. Alternatively, if you just want to hear someone’s voice, there are plenty of YouTube videos of celebrities reading books as well.
Although YouTube is free, you may need to invest in YouTube Premium if you want to avoid pesky ads ruining your listening experience. Luckily, YouTube Premium ($9.99/month) also offers free trials, so you can decide if it’s worth the investment or not.
With Spotify, you can curate a combination of music and podcasts to recreate the Time to Walk feature, which is doable given that it hosts over 82 million tracks and four million podcast titles, according to the Spotify Newsroom.
If you don’t have the budget, you can still take advantage of Spotify’s growing obsession with podcasts, including podcasts from influencers like Michelle Obama, for free with its ad-supported tier. However, the ads can be quite annoying and keep you from entering the area. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to save money on a Spotify Premium subscription.
With a paid subscription, you can enjoy higher quality audio and on-demand offline listening. However, it is important to understand that many podcasts are also sponsored. With this, even if you pay for a premium subscription, it does not mean that you will never have to hear an advertisement again.
If you don’t really like listening to music but just enjoy the sound of a soothing voice, you might prefer a meditation app instead. There are several free meditation apps you can use to clear your mind while walking.
With Head space, you can enjoy the benefits of mindfulness and a positive mindset while moving. However, it’s best to make sure that you don’t listen to any meditations designed to rest while you walk. Luckily, Headspace has meditations specifically designed for movements like dance videos, cardio, stretching, and yoga.
With a clean interface, Google Podcasts is a free podcast app with great playback controls. For example, you not only get the feature to boost playback speed up to three times faster to encourage you to walk faster, but you get the option to mute.
In 2020, Google Podcasts became available for Android and iOS users with an updated interface. If you’re big on the Google smart home ecosystem, Google Podcasts can even start playing your stuff from your phone as you walk around and end with your Nest speakers at home.
While Amazon Prime Music isn’t exactly free, it’s a benefit that all Amazon Prime users get at no additional cost. Amazon Music Prime offers over two million songs and thousands of playlists, including plenty of celebrity-focused content.
If you’re willing to pay a little more, Amazon’s Music Unlimited not only has everything on Amazon Music Prime, but it also offers 75 million HD songs and other tracks not available on the free tier. According American reviewyou can even get access to dozens of celebrity-owned podcasts with Amazon Unlimited.
If you don’t have a Prime subscription, US-based Amazon Music customers can still listen to a limited selection of ad-supported playlists for free. Alternately, Amazon also includes a 90-day free trial of Amazon Music Unlimited as a benefit when you purchase a qualifying product.
If you’re looking for an almost endless list of listening content, Audible is known to have the largest selection of audiobook titles in the world. If you’re looking to hear the voice of your favorite celebrity, Audible also has books read aloud by celebrities.
Besides being a streaming channel, Audible is also the platform where Amazon produces and sells audiobooks, as well as podcasts and meditation tracks. Unfortunately, Audible isn’t really free. Audible has two monthly subscription tiers: Audible Plus ($7.95) and Premium Plus ($14.95).
However, you can get a 30-day free trial, which gives you one credit (or two credits for Prime members) that you can use to claim an audiobook for free that you can listen to forever. Luckily, there are also plenty of great Audible alternatives available for audiobook lovers.
