After the Navy, Joseph and his first wife, Carol, started a family of five. Joseph will be remembered by many as the owner / operator of AJ Plumbing & Heating. He was active in his community as a former volunteer firefighter, coach of the Babe Ruth Baseball League, served on the Boys Club of Hancock County board of directors, and was a high school football and basketball official. He played a very important role in creating the football program for the Boys Club. Joseph also ran for the county commissioner. In his youth, he coached baseball for his sons. He loved the outdoors, joking with family and friends, bowling and being creative as an artist. He even owned another business with his second wife, Ramona; R&J Services. Joseph and Ramona were members of the Realife Church.
