Late SAC educator Charles Lashley honored with poem recited by alumnus and daughter – Eye Witness News

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Almost a year after the Saint Augustine College (SAC) family lost one of their own in the person of longtime educator and mentor Charles Lashley, SAC alumnus Dominique Forbes and his daughter paid tribute to the education giant by reading poetry written in his honor.

The poem, titled “Where’s Daddy on Christmas Day?” was written by Forbes herself and included in her published book “Where Is Daddy?”, which is part of her “Stay Put” series.

According to the author and gospel artist from the Bahamas, the poem is meant to serve as “an ode to the late great teacher of English language and literature” who died on December 24, 2020.

“I really want to thank his wife and children for giving the SAC community a gem in the form of Mr. Charles Lashley,” Forbes said.

“This is for him and his immediate family to understand his call to teach. It’s an understatement that he taught his class with class. “

Lashley made an impact on the life of the mother of five both in class and on the last day of school when he took part in a custom popular among college students by writing on an old uniform shirt that Forbes had brought with her: “Keep your feet on the ground and keep aiming for the stars !!” And watch out for the boys who try to distract your attention !! “

The author herself intends to follow in her footsteps by becoming a Grades 8-12 English Literature teacher in January 2022, once the new school year begins.

An excerpt from the poem she read with her daughter, Hanna, reads: “Her child cannot hug him and ask his father to give him a hug. Her child cannot pronounce her name and hear the sound of her voice.

“Her daddy is gone. Your daddy is still here.
