The Audiobook You Didn’t Know Claire Danes Narrated

Between starring in “Homeland” for nine years (via IMDb) to mother two sons (by People), how did Claire Danes handle it all? The actress, who is also married to actor Hugh Dancy, has juggled many responsibilities throughout her career but still managed to make time to narrate an audiobook: ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’. According to calculations made by In the wings, recording this audiobook probably took about 21 hours. Compared to an eight-season stint in a TV series, that’s not too bad!

Written by Margaret Atwood, this dystopian novel is set in the Republic of Gilead, a totalitarian state that has taken over the United States in the midst of a fertility crisis (via British). This epic tale is told from the perspective of Offred, one of the society’s many “handmaids”. The servants are all fertile women who have most likely committed misdeeds and are forced to bear the children of “commanders”, the men who are at the top of the social hierarchy.

According Weekly entertainment, this audio exclusive was released just ahead of the premiere of the TV show adaptation on Hulu. This Emmy-winning series (by Emmys) stars Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Joseph Fiennes and Alexis Bledel.
