Ticket scalping thrives in fall foliage tourist attractions

SEOUL, Oct. 26 (Korea Bizwire)Amid an increase in the number of tourists visiting various attractions to see autumn leaves, ticket scalping is booming at famous forests with entrance fees.

After purchasing entrance tickets in advance, ticket resellers sell them at a higher price to visitors.

The number of visitors to Hwadam Botanical Garden in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province is increasing as the arboretum is adjacent to the greater Seoul area and its beauty is going viral.

Weekend tickets are already sold out for the duration of the operation.

In this context, scalped notes are selling on second-hand market platforms such as Joonggonara.

Some uploaded messages indicate that admission tickets initially priced at 10,000 won (US$7.00) per adult sell for two or three times as much.

After buying dozens of admission tickets, ticket resellers resell them at a higher price, with some selling tickets in packs of 10.

According to data that Representative Yoo Jung-ju of the Democratic Party received from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the number of ticket smuggling cases reported in the first nine months of this year stood at 3. 594, a big increase from 359 in 2020 and 785 in 2021.
