West Lawn Church will present Easter celebration for the community

• West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave., West Lawn, will host an Easter celebration today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for families in the community. Children can travel along a bunny-marked path and decorate an Easter bag, collect prize-filled eggs, make a He is Risen craft, choose a Salvation Windmill from the Spring Garden, participate in a chalk gospel lesson on the sidewalk and play Easter games. Contemporary Christian music will be played and snacks will be available. The Easter bunny will be available for photos.

• The Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 170 Tuckerton Road, Muhlenberg Township, will hold an egg hunt today at 11:00 am for children ages 1-12. There will be story time, coloring, snacks and photo ops with the bunny. Palm Sunday worship will be held at 10:30 a.m. in person or via Facebook Live or YouTube.

• Victory Baptist Church, 1059 Victory Circle, Canton of Bern, will present a sacred bluegrass concert by BJUgrass on Sunday at 6 p.m. A reception will follow.

• St. John’s Reformed Church, 4001 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, will host a community-wide Easter egg hunt next Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to the egg hunt, there will be games, a craft and a snack. • Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Barto, will worship on Palm Sunday at 9 am, with Holy Communion, benediction and distribution of palms. Coffee and conversation will be at 8:30 a.m. at the Visitor Center and again after worship. Intergenerational Sunday school will take place at 10:15 a.m. in the parlor. The Confirmation class will meet in Room E at 10:15 a.m.

• Reading Moravian Church, 1116 Perry St., Reading, will worship on Palm Sunday at 10 am with the Brass Chorale playing a prelude. The congregation will join in singing Christian Gregor’s “Hosanna” as well as “The Palms.” There will be a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. with communion and music by the brass choir before the service. Masks are mandatory and social distancing is encouraged.

• The Lutheran Reformation Church, 3670 Perkiomen Avenue, Exeter Township, will hold in-person worship on Sunday at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. with benediction and distribution of palms. Masks are optional. The 10:30 a.m. service will be streamed live on Facebook and can be viewed at www.Reformationlutheran.org under worship videos. “Live Holy Week, an intergenerational event, with pastor’s talk, music, crafts, takeout and refreshments will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the parish hall. Maundy Thursday worship with Holy Communion is at 7 p.m. Good Friday worship is at 7 p.m. Both services will also be broadcast live.

• Zion Lutheran Church, 354 Zion Church Road, Perry Township, will hold a Maundy Thursday service with Communion and Altar Counting at 7 p.m. and a Tenebrae Good Friday service at 7 p.m. The annual egg hunt will take place next Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the village hall. There are hunts for children from infants through fifth grade, and the adult hunt will return this year.

• Trinity Lutheran Church, 121 S. Home Avenue, Topton, will hold in-person worship with Holy Communion on Sundays at 9 a.m. or anytime online via YouTube or Facebook. Masks are optional. Seats are available for those who wish to wear masks, not sing and remain socially distant. Sunday school starts at 10 a.m. On Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m., the gospel will come to life with a dramatization by the 3G’s Theater Ministry when they perform “The Living Last Supper.” A Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m.

• The Lutheran Church of Alsace, 2201 Kutztown Road, Muhlenberg Township, will hold an egg hunt today at noon on the ball field behind the church for children up to grade four. Palm Sunday worship will be at 9 a.m. Other Holy Week services: Holy Wednesday with Holy Communion, 1 p.m., in the chapel; Maundy Thursday with Holy Communion, 7 p.m.; Good Friday Community Service with Holy Communion, 1 p.m., with Carlos Lugo, Pastor of Centro Cristiano Palabra de Fe, preaching; Tenebrae Good Friday Service, 7 p.m.

• St. John’s Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, will hold worship Sunday at 9:30 am Livestreamed worship continues on YouTube (St. John’s ELC Boyertown). Sunday school for children is at 9:30 a.m. — register at www.stjohnsboyertown.org. • Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, 250 Church Lane Road, Exeter Township, will hold an in-person service on Palm Sunday at 10:30 a.m., with Holy Communion. The Maundy Thursday service, with Holy Communion, will take place at 7:30 p.m.; The Good Friday service will be at 7:30 p.m. The registered services will be available the next day on Facebook.

• West Wyomissing Chapel, 2055 Reading Blvd., West Lawn, will hold a candlelit communion service on Good Friday at 6 p.m. The chapel choir will present the Easter cantata “It Is Finished”. For more information, email [email protected] or call 610-678-1873.

• Congregations of Zion and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ will worship together at 301 W. Penn Ave., Robesonia, on Palm Sunday at 10:15 a.m. in person as well as through YouTube, Facebook and phone. Palm branches will be consecrated and waved. “The Palms” will be sung by the congregation. Branden Manderbach will offer a trumpet solo, “Fling Wide the Gates”, accompanied by Robert Masenheimer, pastor. The choir will sing “Hosanna to Jesus”. There will be a Maundy Thursday service at 6:30 p.m., with Holy Communion, then a light meal, followed by a Tennabrae service in the sanctuary.

• St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Molltown will have a Maundy Thursday service at 7:00 p.m. There will be an Easter Dawn outdoor service on April 17 at 6:30 a.m. There will also be an Easter Communion service at 10:15 a.m.

• Schwarzwald United Church of Christ, 75 Church Lane Road, Exeter Township, will hold an in-person and Zoom service on Sunday at 10.30am. It will also be available on YouTube. For more information, visit www.schwarzwalduc-pa.org. Bring fresh flowers to decorate the cross outside the church next Saturday in preparation for the Easter celebration.

• Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Center Ave., Reading, has scheduled the following Holy Week services and events: Palm Sunday, 8 am and 10.30 am, Palm Blessing and Multimedia Stations of the Cross after the second service; Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, 12 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Easter Sunday, April 17, continental breakfast at 9 a.m. and worship with brass instruments and communion at 10:30 a.m.

• Friedens United Church of Christ, 337 Main St., Oley, has scheduled the following Holy Week and Easter services: Maundy Thursday, 7:00 p.m., with Holy Communion; Good Friday, 7 p.m.; Easter Sunday, April 17, sunrise service at 7 a.m. in the adjoining cemetery, weather permitting, with an Easter skit titled “The Stones of Passion.” Holy Communion will be celebrated in the sanctuary. Another Easter Sunday service is at 10:15 a.m. with festive music and Holy Communion. Sunday services continue to offer both in-person and participation via Zoom. • St. Peter’s Becker’s Lutheran Church, 265 Maidencreek Road, Richmond Township, will celebrate Palm Sunday at 9 am beginning with the Palm Sunday procession.

• Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court Street, Reading, will hold three in-person Rite 1 worship services on Sunday, all including the Holy Eucharist: at 8 am a so called service (no music); at 9 am, a service for families with young children; and at 10:15 a.m., a service with music. Masks are optional. Parking is available at the Abraham Lincoln parking lot and the M&T Bank parking lot, both off Washington Street. Parking next to the church on Court Street is available for people with disabilities or who need assistance. After the 10:30 a.m. service, the Lenten series, “Soup and Spirits,” will continue in the parish hall. On Thursday at 11 a.m., a morning prayer service from the Book of Common Prayer will be held at the Red Bridge Recreation Area, 2131 Tulpehocken Road, Spring Township, weather permitting. A Maundy Thursday service will be held at the church at 7 p.m. There is a Good Friday service at noon, followed by the Stations of the Cross at 1 p.m. at rdgchristchurch.org.

• Bern Reformed United Church of Christ, 3196 Bernville Road, Bern Township, offers live worship on Sundays at 9:30 am, or join in from your vehicle via FM 87.9 or Facebook.

• St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 5 W. Arch St., Fleetwood, will have two worship services in the sanctuary on Palm Sunday, at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The 9 a.m. service will also be available on Facebook and YouTube; links can be found at www.stpaulsfleetwood.org. Worship leaders will be Tina Koch at 9 a.m. and Hannah Taylor at 10:30 a.m. Special music for both services will be “Ain’t No Rock Gonna Shout For Me” by the Chancel Choir.

• Maidencreek Church, 261 Main St., Maidencreek Township, will host a hybrid worship service, in person and livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube, on Palm Sunday at 9:00 a.m., with Communion and Palm Sunday. Special music includes selections from the Senior Choir and Bell Choir, and the confirmation class will provide movement to the psalm. There will also be a piano/organ duo by Kimberly Ayrton and Megan Esterly, piano solos by Sara Ann Harbonic and Kimberly Ayrton, an organ solo by Kimberly Ayrton, and two congregational hymns. A hybrid Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7 p.m., including Communion. Special music includes a selection from the Senior Choir, solo piano by Miles Esterly, piano/organ duet by Kimberly Ayrton and Megan Esterly, and several congregational hymns. There will be a Tenabrae Good Friday hybrid service at 7 p.m. Special music includes a clarinet solo by Maynard Koplin, vocal solo by Judy Keller, vocal duet by Mike and Bonnie Shuman, piano selections by Kimberly Ayrton, as well as several congregational hymns. • Immanuel United Church of Christ, 99 S Waverly St, Shillington, will perform the cantata ‘I Am the Lord of the Dance’ on Palm Sunday at 9 am. The cantata expands on the timeless oeuvre of Sydney Carter and weaves other hymns and spirituals together. It includes guest musicians Tess Kennedy, flute; Kristin Myers, oboe; Kathleen Stevens, violin; and Janifer Dixon, cello, Worship is offered in person and virtually on Facebook and YouTube.

• Kissinger Church, 715 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, will hold an hour of prayer Wednesday from 4-5 p.m. The public is invited to attend to submit prayer requests and pray for others.
